The diversity of terms referring to the members of the flute family that we find in Castilian texts of the Renaissance makes it challenging to identify these instruments. To aid in this identification, the article examines the descriptions contained in the Castilian monolingual and bilingual dictionaries compiled between 1490 and 1620.
