Zeolite Synthesis in Hydrated Silicate Ionic Liquids

Boek - Dissertatie

The research aims at the development of a new strategy ín characterization of the growth process of zeolites, a material class with utmost importance for the chemical industry. The new strategy Is based on the control of the spatial arrangement of the species involved in zeolite growth by acoustic and electric fields in a new type of miniaturized reactor. We propose the use of external electric and acoustic fields to separate and control intermediate species encountered in zeolite formation spatially. Downsizing the experimental cells allows in situ investigation of spatially resolved reaction species by state-of-the-art analysis methods, e.g., SAXS, DLS and NMR. This strategy is combined with the use of ionic liquid systems for zeolite synthesis, which allows for superior characterization of formation steps. The ultimate goal is eventually to build tailored zeolite materials for specific purposes based on an advanced understanding of the zeolite formation process.
