The challenge of equitable perinatal mental health coverage through local health systems in rural Uganda

The following PhD research proposal outlines a basic format for a three-year study which focuses on realising equitable quality perinatal mental health coverage through local health systems change in rural Uganda. The study design is based on a mixed-methods transdisciplinary methodology, which aims to work through an iterative Action Research Spiral and is participatory in nature. The research proposes to both study and work with concerned stakeholders and the current health systems in order to create more sustainable models for equitable perinatal and maternal mental health outcomes, as deemed most applicable and relevant in low-resource settings.
