Dominium en imperium onder het Nieuwe Imperialisme: de verdrags- en contractspraktijk van Groot-Brittanniƫ, Frankrijk en Duitsmand tijdens de Wedloop voor Afrika (1870-1920).

Responsibility and, maybe, even compensation for the past actions of the former colonial powers in relation to their former colonies, is the theme of this project. New Imperialism (1870-1920), the scramble for Africa, resulted in drawing border lines, dividing territory and disturbing, splitting up and assimilating communities of peoples. This research entails a legal and conceptual analysis of public territorial sovereignty the private right to property of land in the framework of treaty-making practices between European colonial powers and African rulers. It determines that these two concepts were interpreted interchangeable, implying a breach of contract and, thus, ground for responsibility.
