Femtosecond Laser Processing Zirconia Based Ceramics for Dental Applications
Zirconia based ceramics are promising materials in dental applications due to their excellent material properties. The surface condition of the dental implants plays an important role in determining their functionality and effectiveness. Among the various surface treatment methods, laser micromachining stands out because of its potential to generate regular surface textures for a better biological response without altering the bulk mechanical properties. In this research, femtosecond laser will be used to process zirconia/alumina nanocomposite materials for dental implant applications. The fundamentals of femtosecond laser interaction with zirconia/alumina nanocomposite ceramics of different compositions will be investigated. Optimized parameters for femtosecond laser micropatterning zirconia/alumina nanocomposite ceramics dental implant will be determined. Micropatterned dental implant surface will be designed, manufactured, and evaluated to achieve a satisfactory result in terms of improved osseointegration and well maintained bulk mechanical properties in real application.
