Identificatie en karakterisatie van nieuwe factoren om axonale regeneratie na beschadiging te induceren.

The establishment of a screening regime, with an optimized series of tests to quantify axonal growth and morphology with and without prior injury, should prove useful for further screening of gene candidates and for screening potential pharmaceutical compounds. The identification and characterization of generic pathways that promote axon regeneration should directly benefit applied research on axon regeneration in mammals and the selection of possible (chemical) agonist or antagonists that modify these pathways, with a view to identifying possible therapeutic routes. The results should provide fundamental evidence as to whether robust regeneration requires a form of recapitulated neuronal development and should also identify novel regulators of neuronal development.
