Tijdschriftbijdrage - Tijdschriftartikel
The year 2013 was the 10th anniversary of UNESCO's adoption of the
Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
With this anniversary, global society has started to rethink the main
challenges and constraints faced in implementing this convention, while also
seeking to advance the opportunities that it presents.Issues related to
adjusting the Operational Guidelines and revisioning the crucial role of
NGOs have been added to UNESCO's discussion agenda. The 1st International Symposium and
related special edition of Volkskunde (2014) provided some tools for tackling these issues. The cases presented by different nations and regions attest to the fact
that there isn't a fixed model to safeguard the intangible cultural heritage,
instead,many translating”efforts are called upon.“Cultural brokering”
could be a crucial factor in safeguarding intangible cultural heritage,in
which case cultural brokers are key actors in the process.Introducing the
concept of “brokering”may promote the further development of the
intangible cultural heritage safeguarding paradigm.
