Characterization of Low Frequency Electric and Magnetic Shielding Effectiveness of Board-Level Shields using the Stripline Method

In this paper an overview is given on the characterization of board-level shields concerning their shielding effectiveness at lower frequencies (i.e., below 1 GHz). The method starts from the stripline set-up described in the SAE ARP 6248 standard used for the characterization of gaskets. If an appropriate source is used, the method can provide valuable information on the low-frequency electric or magnetic shielding effectiveness of board-level shields. This study highlights the importance of understanding the distinction between electric and magnetic sources in the characterization of the practical performance of board-level shields.
