SuperLib Project: Advanced Dual-Cell Battery Concept for Battery Electric Vehicles

Boekbijdrage - Boekhoofdstuk Conferentiebijdrage

This paper describes the Advanced Dual-Cell Battery Concept for Battery Electric Vehicles in the framework of the European Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). The project investigates a well promised new energy concept, whereby high energy is combined with high power dimensioned batteries on cell level. The proposed methodology should allow extending the battery life cycle by imposing peak power at the high power cell and supplying energy by main energy source: high energy. Moreover, the new concept will assist to prolong the range of the car compared to conventional battery electric vehicles with high energy cells. Therefore, new advanced battery models will be developed by Vrije Universiteit Brussel and IFP Energies Nouvelles where adequate estimation techniques for battery model parameter, state of charge and state of health will be included. Then, from the point of view of the electronic architecture, the energy transfer between high energy and high power cells and balancing system from the other side will be carried out by Valeo, IFP Energies Nouvelles. Finally, the concept will be validated by VDL, Volvo, CRF and BOSCH companies.
