"Dualiteit verkennen voor toekomstige gegevensgestuurde modellering" "Johan Suykens" "Dynamische Systemen, Signaalverwerking en Gegevensanalyse (STADIUS)" "Future data-driven modelling is increasingly challenging for many systems due to higher complexity levels, such as in energy systems, environmental and climate modelling, traffic and transport, industrial processes, health, safety, and others. This requires powerful concepts and frameworks that enable the design of high quality predictive models. In this proposal E-DUALITY we will explore and engineer the potential of duality principles for future data-driven modelling. An existing example illustrating the important role of duality in this context is support vector machines, which possess primal and dual model representations, in terms of feature maps and kernels, respectively. Within this project, besides using existing notions of duality that are relevant for data-driven modelling (e.g. Lagrange duality, Legendre-Fenchel duality, Monge-Kantorovich duality), we will also explore new ones. Duality principles will be employed for obtaining a generically applicable framework with unifying insights, handling different system complexity levels, optimal model representations and designing efficient algorithms. This will require taking an integrative approach across different research fields. The new framework should be able to include e.g. multi-view and multiple function learning, multiplex and multilayer networks, tensor models, multi-scale and deep architectures as particular instances and to combine several of such characteristics, in addition to simple basic schemes. It will include both parametric and kernel-based approaches for tasks as regression, classification, clustering, dimensionality reduction, outlier detection and dynamical systems modelling. Higher risk elements are the search for new standard forms in modelling systems with different complexity levels, matching models and representations to system characteristics, and developing algorithms for large scale applications within this powerful new framework." However, a wide variety of domains, ranging from applications in the medical sector to the broadcasting industry, are faced with the problem of handling the growing amount of data at ever faster rates. The objective of this project is to develop a generic approach to tackle to problem of high data rates at the receiver end of 2D+T architectures for the acquistion of 3D/4D ultrasound. We will pursue this goal by using a Bayesian learning methodology in combination with the compressive sensing paradigm. In order to improve on current compressive sensing techniques using the information present in the incoming signals, we propose to use Bayesian modeling techniques. These techniques are typically very flexible and more easily adaptable to different use case then standard learning methodologies, the drawback being higher computational requirements. The research will be divided into three parts, each corresponding to three essential components of the compressive sensing paradigm. The first is an investigation of existing sparsifying bases suitable for the acquisition methodoloy. This is crucial as a more concise representation of the incoming signals leads to a lower amount of samples needed in order to reconstruct this signal according to CS techniques. Therefore we will first investigate which bases are currently used in line array setups and which are already proposed for the 2D extension before incorporating these in a Bayesian learning strategy. A second pillar in this project is the investigation of the sampling schemes used in different setups. There are some constrains on the amount and the location of the samples which can be left out. Usually this amounts to sampling the arriving signal uniformly at random. However a variety of pseudorandom schemes have been introduced depending on the application. Again learning approaches have been proposed in order to find sensing matrices which better suit a given dictionary. Moreover, this algorithm lends itself to a variety of adaptations, such as the incorporation of the Bayesian framework which we will do in this project. The final component is the reconstruction itself. A large variety of iterative algorithms have been proposed for reconstructing the received signals/images from ""incomplete"" samples. These vary from general techniques to more customized versions like the Bayesian approach used for Ultrasound imaging in. An important point of consideration which will be handled is the quality of the reconstruc- tion. The aforementioned mentioned Bayesian techniques all require significant calculations. Therefore the question arises whether or not the higher reconstruction quality also outweighs the increased complexity. Combining the three components we obtain a flexible generic system which enables us to balance between restoration quality of the signals versus complexity and speed. Furthermore, due to the generalists approach our results can be readily extended to other acquisition technologies relying on the same principle." "Hardware Enabled Crypto en willekeurigheid." "Ingrid Verbauwhede" "Computerbeveiliging en Industriële Cryptografie (COSIC)" "A single flipped bit or a weak random number generator can cause secure systems to fail. The main objective of this proposal is to close the gap between the mathematical heaven of cryptographic algorithms and their efficient, secure and robust hardware implementations. It requires integrating secure cryptographic primitives such as random number generators (RNGs) and physically uncloneable functions (PUFs), together with physical attack countermeasures. Therefore we will study, design and implement RNGs and PUFs with demonstrable entropy guarantees and quality metrics. This includes on-the-fly entropy testing and physical attacks evaluations. This will enable more secure systems and easier certification.State-of-the-art cryptography and countermeasures can fail due to low-entropy random numbers. The unknown is ‘how much’ they will fail and how much entropy degradation can be tolerated (due to attacks or RNG designs mixing true and pseudo randomness). Our objective is to study the strength and gradual security degradation when using lower entropy random numbers. This will enable more optimal and secure implementations. These objectives have to be combined with hardware efficiency and flexibility. This means addressing the extremely low-cost and low-power requirements of constrained embedded devices, low-latency of real-time memory encryption, or high throughput of future terabit networks.Ultimately, we target security building blocks that are flexible, hardware-friendly, efficient, and robust against physical attacks, and which will be demonstrated on European relevant use cases. We bring together experts from industry, academia and evaluation labs with collective ambitions, potential and track records and with complementary expertise, dissemination and impact potential. Results will not only benefit the companies involved and their customers, but also the broader ICT through publications and inputs to standardization and certification bodies." Restored mobility will allow amputees to perform physical activity thus counteracting physical decline and improving the overall health status and quality of life. This consortium will pursue the achievement of the global goal by addressing four specific innovation objectives. 1) Further developments of the existing CYBERLEGs hardware modules, namely the 2-degree-of-freedom active transfemoral prosthesis, the active wearable orthotic device, and the wearable sensory apparatus. 2) Further developments of the existing multi-layered CYBERLEGs control system, to enhance its reliable use in real-life scenarios. 3) Carrying out two multi-centre clinical studies, that validate the therapeutic potentialities and the economic viability of a robotic ortho-prosthesis which restores the amputees’ locomotion abilities in scenarios of activities of daily living. 4) Implementation of a 3-phase strategy to foster the start of the market exploitation within the time frame of the CLs++ project. This proposal focuses on the demonstration in an operational environment (TRL=7) from both the technical and economic viability view point of a modular robotics technology for healthcare, with the ultimate goal of fostering its market exploitation. "Door AI aangedreven gegevensbeheer en publicatie Virtuele assistent" "Marie-Francine Moens" "Mens-Machine Interactie (HCI)" "Integrated, high-quality personal health data (PHD) represents a potential wealth of knowledge for healthcare systems, but there is no reliable conduit for this data to become interoperable, AI-ready and reuse-ready at scale across institutions, at national and EU level. AIDAVA will fill this gap by prototyping and testing an AI-powered, virtual assistant maximizing automation of data curation & publishing of unstructured and structured, heterogeneous data. The assistant includes a backend with a library of AI-based data curation tools and a frontend based on human-AI interaction modules that will help users when automation is not possible, while adapting to users' preferences. The interdisciplinary team of the consortium will develop and test two versions of this virtual assistant with hospitals and emerging personal data intermediaries, around breast cancer patient registries and longitudinal health records for cardio-vascular patients, in three languages. The team will work around four technology pillars: 1) automation of quality enhancement and FAIRification of collected health data, in compliance with EU data privacy; 2) knowledge graphs with ontology-based standards as universal representation, to increase interoperability and portability; 3) deep learning for information extraction from narrative content; and 4) AI-generated explanations during the process to increase users? confidence. By increasing automation of data quality enhancement, AIDAVA will decrease the workload of clinical data stewards; by providing high-quality data, AIDAVA will improve the effectiveness of clinical care and support clinical research. In the long-term, AIDAVA has the potential to democratise participation in data curation & publishing by citizens/patients leading to overall savings in health care costs (through disease prevention, early diagnosis, personalized medicine) and supporting delivery of the European Health Data Space."
