Power electronic (PE) devices are a key enabler for integrating renewable energy into our power system. However, to achieve interoperability of PE devices, barriers are present in technology but also in intellectual property and regulation. To overcome these barriers, Inter-oPEn offers a unique doctoral training program for 10 researchers that integrates multi-sectorial knowledge, gathering electrical engineering and legal researchers. To ...
Innovative solutions for advanced interconnects using ultralow-k dielectrics KU Leuven
Stability Analysis of Hybrid AC/DC Power Systems KU Leuven
The massive integration of renewable energy sources in the power system worldwide is pushing the transmission systems to their limits. Power electronics-based network components are playing a major role in this energy transition. They offer the possibility to control power flows and increase the reliability of the network under variable working conditions. On the transmission level, HighVoltage Direct Current (HVDC) technology is the ...
KU Leuven
The annual space heating and cooling energy consumption in Europe is almost 3,500TWh. In 2012, in EU28 the electricity consumption ratio was around the 20% of the total energy consumption, from which 30% was consumed in the residential and 30% in the services sectors. From these proportions, air conditioning represents 17% of the total electricity consumption in the EU27 residential buildings. In the EU tertiary sector the electric space and ...
Modular Development Plan of the Pan-European Transmission System 2050. KU Leuven
Eight Transmission System Operators (BE, CZ, FR, DE, IT, PT, CH, PL) and ENTSO-E, together with 4 associations of technology manufacturers, and 16 RTD performers propose a 3-year R&D project to develop and to apply a methodology for the long-term development of the Pan-European transmission network. The project aims at delivering a top-down methodology to support the planning from 2020 to 2050. First, it implements a set of future power ...
