Imagining the Dutch polder landscape: a design by OMA from 1986 Universiteit Gent
In 1986, the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) / Rem Koolhaas created-a landscape design for the Haarlemmermeerpolder, located between-Amsterdam, Leiden, and Haarlem. They were invited by urbanists and planners wanting to denounce the urban policy in the 1980s. Dutch spatial-development, - once characterized by reclamation and bold city planning, had come to a standstill. The possible urbanity of the Haarlemmermeerpolder-a unity based ...
Transmissibility based OMA for time-varying loading conditions Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Periodical loads, such as waves and rotating machinery, are a problem for operational modal analysis (OMA). In OMA only the vibrations of a structure of interest are measured and little to nothing is known about the loads causing these vibrations. Therefore, it is often assumed that all dynamics in the measured data are linked to the system of interest.
A novel approach to this problem is the research into time-varying transmissibilities ...

Modal identification using OMA techniques: Nonlinearity effect Vrije Universiteit Brussel KU Leuven
This paper is focused on an assessment of the state of the art of operational modal analysis (OMA) methodologies in estimating modal parameters from output responses of nonlinear structures. By means of the Volterra series, the nonlinear structure excited by random excitation is modeled as best linear approximation plus a term representing nonlinear distortions. As the nonlinear distortions are of stochastic nature and thus indistinguishable ...
Highly integrated wavelength-locked Si photonic ring transmitter using direct monitoring of drop-port OMA KU Leuven
© 2017 IEEE. A highly integrated wavelength locking control circuit is presented. It locks the 4Gbps CMOS-Si photonics ring-based transmitter at the maximum optical modulation amplitude (OMA). The control circuit uses direct monitoring of drop-port OMA and a dither-based slope quantizer. It is low-noise and low-offset. Resultantly, a 0.4% (2.2pm, 0.03°C) locking accuracy is achieved with only 15μA of pk-pk OMA photocurrent at the drop port. This ...
Wavelength locking of a Si ring modulator using an integrated drop-port OMA monitoring circuit KU Leuven
© 2016 IEEE. Silicon micro-ring modulators have the potential to enable energy efficient, high-bandwidth-density optical interconnects in CMOS compatible silicon technologies. However, their operation is highly susceptible to any thermal, laser wavelength or process variations and, as such, require a feedback control system for guaranteeing stable modulation. This paper demonstrates wavelength locking of a hybrid CMOS-silicon photonics ...
Wavelenght Locking of a Si Ring Modulator using an Integrated Drop-Port OMA Monitoring Circuit KU Leuven
© 2015 IEEE. We demonstrate wavelength locking of a hybrid C MOS-silicon photonics ring-based transmitter through direct monitoring of the optical modulation amplitude (OMA) at the drop port of the ring modulator. The OMA is read from a Ge photodetector by a low-power 40nm CMOS circuit, which subsequently drives a feed-back loop that controls the modulator temperature using an integrated heater. OMA stabilization is demonstrated under abrupt ...
Wavelength locking of a Si photonic ring transmitter using a dithering-based OMA stabilizing feedback loop KU Leuven
© 2016 OSA. We demonstrate wavelength locking of a silicon ring modulator across 480pm laser wavelength drift using a drop-port OMA monitoring CMOS circuit and a dithering-based feedback loop at a settling speed of up to 380pm/s.
Automated OMA for monitoring wind turbine blade modes from the tower during operation Vrije Universiteit Brussel
For wind turbines installed in the built environment, the risk of ice throw is a concern to operators. Large pieces of ice being thrown from the blades poses a severe risk for damage on infrastructure and, worse, personal safety. In industry several solutions do exist to detect the build-up of icing using operational modal parameters obtained from sensors on the blades. In this research project an alternative strategy to detect icing is ...
