Comparison of postoperative comfort in 20 gauge versus 23 gauge pars plana vitrectomy KU Leuven
PURPOSE: Although the sutureless 23Gauge (23G) vitrectomy technique is being increasingly used, a significant number of pars plana vitrectomies are still conducted using the 20G technique. This study evaluates whether the 23G vitrectomy causes less postoperative pain, less discomfort and a shorter duration of sick leave than the 20G vitrectomy. METHODS: In 2006, a questionnaire was sent to 877 patients who had undergone either 20G or 23G pars ...
A gauge invariant infrared stabilization of 3D Yang-Mills gauge theories Universiteit Gent
We demonstrate that the inversion method can be a very useful tool in providing an infrared stabilization of 3D gauge theories, in combination with the mass operator A(2) in the Landau gauge. The numerical results will be unambiguous, since the corresponding theory is ultraviolet finite in dimensional regularization, making a renormalization scale or scheme obsolete. The proposed framework is argued to be gauge invariant, by showing that the ...

Patterns of Soft Masses from General Semi-Direct Gauge Mediation Vrije Universiteit Brussel
We give a general formulation of semi-direct gauge mediation of supersymmetry breaking where the messengers interact with the hidden sector only through a weakly gauged group. Using this general formulation, we provide a diagrammatic proof that the MSSM gaugino masses are vanishing to leading (three loop) order. The MSSM sfermion squared masses have a generic leading contribution at four loups. We discuss how such a mechanism can successfully be ...
On bounds and boundary conditions in the continuum Landau gauge KU Leuven Universiteit Gent
© 2015, The Author(s). In this note, we consider the Landau gauge in the continuum formulation. Our purposes are twofold. Firstly, we try to work out the consequences of the recently derived Cucchieri–Mendes bounds on the inverse Faddeev operator at the level of the path integral quantization. Secondly, we give an explicit (renormalizable) prescription to implement the so-called Landau B-gauges as introduced by Maas.
Experiences in using the TRMM data to complement rain gauge data in the Ecuadorian coastal foothills Vrije Universiteit Brussel
At present, new technologies are becoming available
to extend the coverage of conventional meteorological
datasets. An example is the TMPA-3B42R dataset (research
– v6). The usefulness of this satellite rainfall product has
been investigated in the hydrological modeling of the Vinces
River catchment (Ecuadorian lowlands). The initial TMPA-
3B42R information exhibited some features of the precipitation

Multilepton signals of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking at the LHC Vrije Universiteit Brussel
We investigate multilepton LHC signals arising from electroweak processes involving sleptons. We consider the framework of general gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking, focusing on models where the low mass region of the superpartner spectrum consists of the three generations of charged sleptons and the nearly massless gravitino. We demonstrate how such models can provide an explanation for the anomalous four lepton events recently observed by ...
Search for a heavy gauge boson W' in the final state with an electron and large missing transverse energy in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV Vrije Universiteit Brussel
A search for a heavy gauge boson W' has been conducted by the CMS experiment at the LHC in the decay channel with an electron and large transverse energy imbalance, using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 inverse picobarns. No excess above standard model expectations is seen in the transverse mass distribution of the electron-(missing E_T) system. Assuming standard-model-like couplings and decay ...
