Eightfold increased membrane flux of NF 270 by O3 oxidation of natural humic acids without deteriorated permeate quality KU Leuven
BACKGROUND: Membrane fouling by humic acids limits the water recovery of nanofiltration in drinking water production. This article investigates if membrane fouling can be reduced by decomposition of humic acids in the concentrate stream by O3 oxidation. RESULTS: At a specific O3 dose of 2.11 g O3 per g COD (17.0 g m-3 O3 (g) for 20 minutes), a COD reduction of 38% and a hydrophobic COD reduction of 69% is achieved. The membrane permeability of ...
The Current Status of MOF and COF Applications KU Leuven
The amalgamation of different disciplines is at the heart of reticular chemistry and has broadened the boundaries of chemistry by opening up an infinite space of chemical composition, structure, and material properties. Reticular design has enabled the precise prediction of crystalline framework structures, tunability of chemical composition, incorporation of various functionalities onto the framework backbone, and as a consequence, fine-tuning ...

Is a scaling factor required to obtain closure between measured and modelled atmospheric O4 absorptions? An assessment of uncertainties of measurements and radiative transfer simulations for 2 selected days during the MAD-CAT campaign KU Leuven
© 2019 Author(s). In this study the consistency between MAX-DOAS measurements and radiative transfer simulations of the atmospheric O 4 absorption is investigated on 2 mainly cloud-free days during the MAD-CAT campaign in Mainz, Germany, in summer 2013. In recent years several studies indicated that measurements and radiative transfer simulations of the atmospheric O 4 absorption can only be brought into agreement if a so-called scaling factor ...
Effects of Alkali Activation and CO2 Curing on the Hydraulic Reactivity and Carbon Storage Capacity of BOF Slag in View of Its Use in Concrete KU Leuven
© 2019, Springer Nature B.V. This work investigates the sequential application of alkali activation and CO2 curing to BOF steel slag as a technique for improving its hydraulic reactivity for use in concrete, while also exploiting its potential as a carbon sink. Activation with either a sodium hydroxide/sodium-silicate or a sodium hydroxide/sodium carbonate solution was first evaluated in a preliminary calorimetric study for selecting the ...
The catalytic performance of Cu-containing zeolites in N2O decomposition and the influence of O2, NO and H2O on recombination of oxygen KU Leuven
The catalytic decomposition of N2O was studied over Cu-containing zeolites with different Cu loadings and framework topologies (MFI, MOR, FER, BEA, and FAU). The influence of NO, O2, and H2O on the rate of N2O decomposition was investigated in detail. A kinetic model was developed based on the relevant elementary reaction steps in the mechanism of N2O decomposition. The recombination of oxygen atoms into molecular oxygen is recognized as the ...
