A method for estimating the contribution of seed potatoes, machinery and soil tare in field infestations with potato cyst nematodes on a national scale Instituut voor Landbouw-, Visserij- en Voedingsonderzoek
In order to make a cost benefit analysis for the management of the potato cyst nematodes Globodera rostochiensis and G. pallida, we developed a method to estimate the relative importance of three basic distribution channels of potato cyst nematodes: seed potatoes, machinery and soil tare. The baseline is determined by the area planted with potatoes, the area infested with potato cysts, the proportion of resistant potato cultivars and the ...
Potato virus Y (PVY) strains in Belgian seed potatoes and first molecular detection of the N-Wi strain Instituut voor Landbouw-, Visserij- en Voedingsonderzoek
Potato virus Y (PVY), one of the most important agents causing potato crop losses worldwide, is transmitted by a variety of aphid species in a non-persistent manner. Several PVY strains have been differentiated, all of them causing different symptoms and symptom expression levels on numerous commercial potato cultivars. In Belgium, strains belonging to the N group have been reported as the most prevalent, but no detailed information on the ...

Potato cyst nematodes : a new threat to potato production in East Africa Universiteit Gent
Potato cyst nematodes (PCN), such as Globodera rostochiensis and Globodera pallida, are quarantine restricted pests of potato causing major yield and financial losses to farmers. G. rostochiensis was first reported from Kenya's key potato growing area in 2015. We sought to determine the diversity, prevalence and distribution of PCN species across the country by conducting a country-wide survey between 2016 and 2018, which included a more ...

Observations on the life cycle of potato cyst nematodes, Globodera rostochiensis and G. pallida, on early potato cultivars Instituut voor Landbouw-, Visserij- en Voedingsonderzoek Universiteit Gent
Potato cyst nematodes (PCN) are the most economically important nematode pests of potato. Early harvesting is part of a
preventive management approach for very early potato varieties. In Belgium, tubers are harvested before 20 June because it is assumed
that no cyst formation occurs by that date. However, this assumption might not be valid any more because of climate change, the
availability of new cultivars (with new ...

THERMOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF FILMS PREPARED USING NON-IRRADIATED AND IRRADIATED POTATO STARCH AND POTATO STARCH – SURFACTANT SYSTEMS Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Radiation treatment might be adopted for improvement of the properties of the films formed using starch and composition of starch with surfactants. At present the influence of gamma irradiation on thermophysical properties of the films formed in potato starch - glycerol and potato starch - glycerol - surfactant systems were examined by DMA and DSC methods and the results were related to the content of the volatile fraction in the films.
