Strength by joining methods: combining synthesis with NMR, IR, and vibrational circular dichroism spectroscopy for the determination of the relative configuration in hemicalide Universiteit Gent Universiteit Antwerpen
Insights in the molecular structure of low- and high-molecular weight poly(styrene-maleic anhydride) from vibrational and resonance spectroscopy Universiteit Gent
Error bounds on goodness of fit indicators in vibrational circular dichroism spectroscopy Universiteit Antwerpen
The bootstrap method has been applied to estimate error bounds on five goodness-of-fit indicators in vibrational spectroscopy. The use of these indicators has been first tested on the known vibrational circular dichroism spectrum of 3-chloro-1-butyne, and then it has been adopted for the assignment of the absolute configuration of 3-methyl-3-nitromethyl-isoindolinone. The (+) stereoisomer turns out to have the (S) configuration.
Structures and vibrational spectroscopy of partially reduced gas-phase cerium oxide clusters KU Leuven
This work demonstrates that the most stable structures of even small gas-phase aggregates of cerium oxide with 2-5 cerium atoms show structural motifs reminiscent of the bulk ceria. This is different from main group and transition metal oxide clusters, which often display structural features that are distinctly different from the bulk structure. The structures of Ce2O2+, Ce3O4+, and (CeO2)(m)CeO+ clusters (m = 0-4) are unambiguously determined ...
Profiling of counterfeit medicines by vibrational spectroscopy Universiteit Antwerpen
Counterfeit pharmaceutical products have become a widespread problem in the last decade. Various analytical techniques have been applied to discriminate between genuine and counterfeit products. Among these, Near-infrared (NIR) and Raman spectroscopy provided promising results. The present study offers a methodology allowing to provide more valuable information for organisations engaged in the fight against counterfeiting of medicines. A ...
Vibrational spectroscopy of neutral silicon clusters via far-IR-VUV two color ionization KU Leuven
Tunable far-infrared-vacuum-ultraviolet two color ionization is used to obtain vibrational spectra of neutral silicon clusters in the gas phase. Upon excitation with tunable infrared light prior to irradiation with UV photons we observe strong enhancements in the mass spectrometric signal of specific cluster sizes. This allowed the recording of the infrared absorption spectra of Si-6, Si-7, and Si-10. Structural assignments were made by ...
