The Beautiful Impact of Mathematics in Society (BRGEOZ428)

In the 2022-2023 academic year, after all the corona restrictions, we want to welcome as many students and teachers as possible with an interest in mathematics to the VUB campus. In three events, each with a specific character, but with the same common goal, we want to examine the impact of mathematics in our society. The first event is the fifth edition of our conference The Beautiful Impact of Mathematics in Society (BIMS V), with the central theme of Mathematics and Data Science for Education, Industry and Society, on 21/09/2022. The second event is our annual Mathematics and Mathematics competition, the final of which we plan to hold on March 14, 2023, on the VUB campus. The central theme of the congress is continued in the common thread of the competition. in conclusion, we conclude the STEM triathlon with the Brussels edition of the traveling exhibition Imaginary: Splendor and Power of Mathematics, from April 15 – May 13, 2023, on the VUB campus. Once again, the applications of mathematics (in the broad sense) and the impact of mathematics on society are discussed in this exhibition. In addition, the exhibition will take place in the AI Experience Center of the VUB, so that visitors can also become acquainted with demos in AI and with several STEM courses at the VUB.
