Project

Biochemical identification of virus susceptibility factors for crop improvement and sustainable cultivation (VIRUS)

The consortium wants to provide, as a service to the global plant breeding sector, an approach to identify plant virus susceptibility genes, so that farmers can grow virus resistant varieties.
Specifically, the project will
(1) establish a proof-of-concept for the biochemical discovery of virus susceptibility factors in plants,
(2) refine and extend strategies to bring the plant outside of the host-range of the virus,
(3) apply the developed discovery pipeline to two economically important viruses.
