God and Street Smarts: Theological Foundations of a Theology of Culture

This project intends to propose a conceptual model for a contemporary theology of culture that can contribute to the fields of systematic and philosophical theology. In order to achieve this, recent developments in the contemporary theology of culture will be explored and mapped out to develop a typology. The typology will be evaluated through the study of Graham Ward’s theological cultural hermeneutics. The resulting data will be assessed through biblical hermeneutics, and then an initial model will be proposed with specific criteria. The model will then be applied to the field of theology and film, where it will be contrasted with Clive Marsh’s work in that area, and then there will be a demonstration of the model through a few contemporary films. Finally, that data will be critically evaluated, and a final contemporary model of a theology of culture will be proposed.
