DREIMS - Dental Tissue Regeneration via Bioengineered Immune Modulatory Scaffolds
We aim to create a bioengineered tooth root consisting of three crucial components mimicking the hard-core dentin, periodontal ligament interface, and dental pulp. To achieve this, we will integrate novel biomaterials, advanced drug delivery systems, and innovative immune-modulatory tissue engineering techniques. Our approach builds upon the current research on dental pulp tissue engineering conducted by the OMFS-IMPATH group, and leverages this knowledge to develop a hybrid engineered dentin core with periodontal ligament interface. By utilizing an immune-modulated tissue engineering strategy, this project has the potential to revolutionize the field of regenerative dentistry and spearhead the development of truly biological dental root tissue replacement therapies that can significantly improve patient care for dental tissue loss during dentoalveolar development, given that osseointegrated implants are only suitable for adults.
