Project

Sustainable low-carbon thermal plasma processing platform for valorisation of challenging waste (SUSPLASM). (SUSPLASM)

The overall goal of this project is to design and develop innovative, sustainable, fully electrified, green advanced thermal plasma-based gasification with zero or even negative CO2 footprint for the treatment of challenging waste streams containing complex organic pollutants and (micro)plastics, and the production of syngas. The current solution to processing these challenging waste streams is incineration, which completely destroys the material value and leads to CO2 emissions. To improve scalability, pyrolysis, as a pretreatment, will be integrated into the gasification step. The potential of this integrated technology is groundbreaking and attractive because it contributes to a circular economy model, in which value can be assigned to waste, while at the same time producing syngas and using a technology that perfectly matches clean, renewable energy.
