Verbal cluster order variation from Early to Late Modern Dutch

This is the dataset of the following publication: "Van Ongeval, J. & R. Vosters (2025). The driving forces behind verbal cluster order variation from Early to Late Modern Dutch. Revue Belge de Philologie et d'Histoire, 100, 163-180." In this article, we examined the impact of both sociolinguistic (time, region, text genre) and structural variables (the morphological structure of the past particple, the type of auxiliary verb, the distance between the subordinate conjunction and the verbal cluster, and the presence or absence of the final clause position) on the verbal cluster order variation from Early to Late Modern Dutch. To investigate this, we conducted a corpus linguistic study based on the Historical Corpus of Dutch, which was compiled by dr. Iris Van de Voorde at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and Universiteit Leiden.
