The Blue Colour Work (Modum, Norway): Fingerprinting 19th century's largest cobalt blue supplier

This PhD aims to investigate the production of blue pigment at the Blue Color Work (Norway) throughout the late 18th and 19th century AD. Mainly, this project will characterise the chemical fingerprint of cobalt ores from the Skuterud deposit, and assess the evolution of this fingerprint during the transformation of the ores into blue pigments. This fingerpint will, in turn, serve as a tool to establish a connection between the pigments produced at the Blue Color Work and objects of art.
