The integration of psychological insights in the context of criminal law enforcement

There is already a substantial body of (legal-)psychological knowledge available today that offers insights into the pitfalls and best practices within the context of criminal law enforcement. However, when it comes to the integration of such knowledge, Belgium remains largely a black box in comparison to other countries. Moreover, the available psychological insights are mostly rooted in Anglo-Saxon tradition and often based on laboratory studies with student participants, complicating its applicability to the Belgian criminal law enforcement context. Starting from this observation, this doctoral research will further explore themes related to the integration of criminological-psychological and/or legal-psychological insights into the Belgian criminal law enforcement practice, with due attention to both the national legal framework and the European context.
