Lifting Sulawesi's biodiversity research into the era of genomics

Urgent action is needed to safeguard Sulawesi's extraordinary biodiversity. Accessible, up-to-date, and locally relevant information enables meaningful conservation action. Our project will empower us, Indonesian scientists, to protect our aquatic biodiversity, combining deep local knowledge with innovative genomic ecosystem monitoring. Through strategic partnerships, comprehensive training, collaborative research, and FAIR data sharing, we create a multiplier effect which ensures sustainability of our activities beyond this project. Early, intensive stakeholder engagement further strengthens implementation. This project valorises intensive training and co-creation of knowledge from our previous VLIR-UOS funded SI project, continuing our trajectory from capacity building to practical application in biodiversity monitoring, where learned skills are routinely applied and outcomes consistently communicated to stakeholders.
