Project

Integration of Social and Environmental Criteria for the Remediation of PFAS Contamination (INSERT). (INSERT)

INSERT aims to study the social context and sustainability of various (innovative) remediation techniques, with a focus on PFAS. This will be done both in a comparative perspective, e.g. in cases where choices have to be made about the techniques that will be used, and for the techniques themselves. We aim to develop a harmonised evaluation framework for the sustainability of new remediation technologies, in order to be able to provide advice during the development of new remediation technologies on how these can be further developed into their most sustainable configuration. In addition, we provide an evaluation of the current frameworks and procedures for the evaluation of technical, economic, environmental and social impact of remediation projects, we look at how the new techniques score according to these procedures and why, and we make suggestions to optimise the assessment process.
