The operation of future electricity generation systems: Matching existing and novel energy conversion technologies for optimal system operation
The increasing share of intermittent renewable energy sources puts substantial stress on the electricity generation systems secure operation. Flexible operation of power plants and other means of flexibility will be required. Dedicated models are required to optimize the reliable functioning of such future low-carbon systems. Within this project, critical research progress is envisaged in upgrading and developing new operational electricity-generation-optimization models, in establishing the appropriate links to other energy carriers and networks in an energy-systems-integration approach, and in using these models to evaluate and assess market design, energy- and climate-policies.
