Taking ovarian cancer diagnosis to the next level: evaluation of the decision to operate, the added value of MRI and OMICS markers, and optimal integration to patient care pathways

Tools to predict ovarian tumor malignancy prior to surgery are pivotal to improve patient management. The International Ovarian Tumor Analysis consortium has developed tools based on clinical and ultrasound information. However, it is time to take ovarian cancer diagnosis to the next level. Firstly, this project will develop evidence-based guidance to decide when to operate and when to follow-up tumors conservatively. Secondly, this project will investigate the added value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), proteomics, DNA, and cellular information, and aims to develop a prediction toolkit that can be used in screening, primary care, and secondary/tertiary care, and that combines data modalities such as symptoms, clinical, ultrasound, biomarkers, MRI, and DNA.
