Abstract:The aim of this chapter is to provide an insight into the dynamics of penal transformation both in Belgium and in England and Wales in relation to probation and its search for legitimacy, as well as to analyse how the legitimation processes of the last fifteen years have had an impact upon the service and probation practitioners.
