SPRAK36 project

Since the implementation of the Pupil Guidance Decree (September 2018) parents are invited with their three-year-old toddler at the site of the School Health Services to evaluate the presence of possible difficulties in development and parenting of young children. In the absence of a validated, standardized guideline to support the conversation with the parent the SPARK36 is set up. SPARK36 stands for Structured Problem Analysis of Raising Kids, three-year-old child (36months) The SPARK36 project aims to develop a validated instrument (SPARK36) which; (a) supports nurses in youth health care in a structured conversation with the parent of a three-year-old during the systematic consult,(development) (b) performs a risk assessment of parenting and child developmental problems by the nurse (as a decree assignment) in a uniform manner,(validation) (c ) enables early detection of parenting and child developmental problems and allows for early intervention based on joint decision-making focussing on the needs of the parent and the child, (validation) (d) is implementable in daily practice (the systematic consult of the three-year-old accompanied by their parent(s), organized by the school health services in Flanders) and thereby improves the quality of care.(feasibility and implementation) The Medical Research Council (MRC) framework will be used to achieve the development and evaluation of this complex intervention (SPARK36 - guideline for consultation of parents of toddlers) (Graig et al, 2008).
