Affordable Habitat - The Development Of Housing And Neighbourhood Simulation Models

Journal Contribution - Journal Article

The demand for new housing and the improvement of the urban environment of the existing ones, for low-income sectors of the population, are some of the most essential needs to be covered regarding the urban and social development of Latin America cities. Guayaquil is no exception, and the existence of vast sectors of peripheral informal settlements such as Monte Sinahí is proof of this. The answer to this problem is complex and the present investigation approaches it considering housing as part of an integral and complex system, such as the habitat or its immediate urban context. Following this, proposals are proposed that allow visualizing different scenarios as part of an open and continuous system. For this study, bibliographic research, and the development of simulation models for new housing and improvement projects were used, considering architectural and urban variables. Subsequently, sensitivity analyzes are performed in order to identify the variables that could have the greatest impact regarding the planning of a project. Finally, it concludes with reflections and considerations about the use of these tools in the field of architecture, in which they have not yet been sufficiently explored, and as part of an open and flexible process that can adapt to the current and future housing user’s needs.
