Immanuel Wallerstein’s lasting impact on the field of world history : a historian’s view

Abstract:In this paper I discuss the deep impact of Immanuel Wallerstein’s work on the vibrant field of world and global history. I focus on the questions of scale, ambition, and convergence and divergence. I conclude with some epistemological reflections on the challenges and limits of a world-historical perspective.
