Diagnostic value of mCRP as an early systemic chronic inflammation marker: ongoing clinical validation and derisking (R-12177)

Chronic and systemic inflammation is widely regarded as a major underlying trigger for the development of highly disabling diseases such as cardiovascular disease (CVD), depression, COPD, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. The detection of chronic inflammation is crucial, but this is currently not possible. (1) UHasselt has developed a sensitive and diagnostic test based on monomeric CRP, a pro-inflammatory form of the known pCRP inflammatory marker, which allows adequate detection of chronic and systemic inflammation in the serum of patients (patent pending EP20212664.5). In this project, this laboratory test will be further developed into a Research-Use-Only (RUO) test, which will then allow the clinical validation of this novel mCRP biomarker for chronic inflammation in large cohorts of patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and major depression (MDD) patients. This will allow to validate the diagnostic potential of this marker, strengthen the patent position and increase the market potential via the RUO kit.
