Project

Vlinder in the picture: school research for infopanel at weather station

This proposal is in line with the Vlinder citizen science project in which researchers and schools installed more than 70 weather stations in Flanders and Brussels. The diversity of environments (city centres, forests, lakes, etc.) where these weather stations are located, creates a unique observational network to map the influence of the environment on the weather. The schools have a large share in this network: they proposed the locations, built the weather stations and intervene in case of problems. This proposal aims at supporting the schools to get started with the weather measurements. UGent students with knowledge of weather and climate will guide students at school to analyse the data. In cooperation with local partners (city, company, ...) the results will be processed in an information panel that will be placed at the school's Vlinder weather station. In this way we also inform local residents and passers-by about the Vlinder project.
