Diagnostics and Treatment planning in Periodontology & Oral Implantology.

With a prevalence of up to 40%, periodontitis is one of the most widespread diseases worldwide. Therefore, an accurate diagnosis is mandatory for predictable treatment. Since there are multiple similarities between periodontitis and peri-implantitis, shared risk factors should be evaluated. Periodontitis may ultimately result in tooth loss and consequently requires the use of dental implants to restore compromised oral and aesthetic function. Implant treatment is well established and shows high survivial rates in the longterm. Unfortunetly implant survival does not necessarly means implant succes. Implant succes also involves the evaluation of peri-implant condiditions, crestal bone stability and aesthetics. The latter become a rather recent challenge, to strive for optimal aesthetic outcome that remains stable. Although periodontal en implant treatment are frequently reported there are multiple aspects that require further investigation, this project will focus on this shortcomings.
