Praktijkpunt Landbouw Vlaams-Brabant

Praktijkpunt Landbouw Vlaams-Brabant links academic research and farmers through its practice-oriented research. We collect and develop knowledge to support famers in their daily practice. Our main focus is chicory or Belgian endive, a delicate and unique vegetable. Research topics include variety research, quality characteristics, plant nutrition and fertilization, crop protection, water, cultivation techniques, energy, waste valorization and diversification. Another research focus is innovative crops, with a focus on oil and fiber crops such as pot marigold, quinoa and hemp. We grow over 20 innovative crops in our innovation garden: coriander, camelina, sweet potato, … In addition to cultivation technology, there is also a strong focus on chain development. Typical Flemish Brabant cultivations such as arable farming, table and wine grapes and hops are also part our research. Broader themes such as sustainability, innovation and soil and water quality are also addressed in our research.
