AdvanceEJM: Advanced electrochemical jet machining equipment offering unique capability for micromanufacturing and athermal processing of novel materials

This small infrastructure project aims to procure the first electrochemical jet machining (EJM) equipment at KU Leuven that addresses several research groups' needs within the framework of ongoing research projects. Specifically, the team of the (co)promoters will research an athermal micromachining process (EJM) for sharing complimentary expertise in terms of application potential (advanced material processing, fabrication of micro-moulds for ceramic injection moulding, high temperature and pressure microfluidic channels in difficult-to-cut materials, surface structuring of implants, selective finishing of additively manufactured components, manufacturing of heat exchanger plates) as well as towards fundamental research aspects (process development, removal mechanisms, electrolyte flow path design, characterisation of processing disturbances e.g. gas bubbles, passivation) related to ECM technology.
