Hoe de Schoolcontext bijdraagt aan Lage Etnische Vooroordelen onder de Volgende Generatie: Onderzoek naar de Gezamenlijke Rollen van Scholen, Leraren en Leerlingen.
Ethnic prejudices are harmful to harmony and equal opportunities in ethnically diverse societies. Although prejudices emerge from a young age, young adolescents (aged 10-18) are particularly susceptible to external contextual influences beyond the family. The school environment, where youth spend a significant portion of their day, can play a crucial role in reducing ethnic prejudices. In this project, my goal is to better understand the factors within the school environment that can contribute to lower levels of ethnic prejudices among young people by integrating theories from various disciplines such as sociology, developmental psychology, and social psychology. Specifically, I investigate how intergroup contact with peers, the quality of relationships with teachers, and socialization by both teachers and the school (through diversity policies) collectively contribute to explaining ethnic prejudices. I will conduct this investigation through cross-sectional mediation and moderation analyses, as well as through a quasi-experiment with a control group.
