New NaSo. Future-proofing, updating and expanding the digital gateway to the narrative sources of the medieval and early modern Low Countries

Narrative Sources is an internationally acclaimed open-access repertory of narrative sources from the medieval Low Countries, developed at Ghent University. The New NaSo project ensures the long-term sustainability of this indispensable resource by upgrading its technology, updating its content, and expanding its scope across genres and historical periods.

The project delivers a much-needed upgrade of software and architecture, introduces new features for textual and geospatial analysis and IIIF integration, enhances search functionality, and implements a state-of-the-art content management system. The database will also benefit from a substantial update of its existing content and the large-scale integration of literary narratives and early modern sources, enabling it to address new research questions and engage a broader user base.

In doing so, Narrative Sources will continue to serve in the decades ahead as a vital heuristic tool and a dynamic incubator for new lines of research.
