The OPTICO project aims at overcoming the present limitations on implementing Process intensification by establishing a new methodological design approach for sustainable, intensified chemical/biopharmaceutical plant design and operation through a flexible, integrated multi-scale modeling framework coupled with advanced process analytics tools and modern optimization/control techniques.
Driven by ever more demanding multimedia broadband applications, e.g. for video-on-demand or television-on-demand consumer purposes or professional e-health (imaging) data, very high bitrate networks are needed. This project proposal considers the modeling of digital subscriber lines and chip-to-chip interconnects up to high frequencies, and their use as signal conductors for high bitrate digital communications.

The project aims to develop exact and meta-Â heuristic optimization techniques that incorporate
uncertainty (i.e. operational variability in supply and demand) upfront in the construction of personnel rosters. In this way, we integrate the tactical personnel scheduling phase with the operational phase in order to construct robust personnel rosters.
