A silenced reality on the way to the United Kingdom: sexual violence in male migrants in transit in Belgium and France Ghent University
Contrary to gender stereotypes portraying male migrants as dangerous, hypersexual and invulnerable, research indicates male migrants face high risks to experience sexual violence. With sexual victimization rates reaching up to 37,20% in male migrants in transit in Morocco, sexual violence seems to be particularly common along the route and in transit. This regularity of male sexual violence has recently been reported in migrants in transit on ...

#MenToo. Explaining the prevalence, consequences and risk of sexual violence victimization in adult males Ghent University
There is an overall shortage of research on male sexual victimization. Existing stereotypes in society (i.e. men should be strong and sexually dominant)make it difficult for men to accept this happened to them. This project aims to produce new insights in male sexual violence by clarifying the mediated effect of gender roles on its prevalence and consequences.
Marriage, Family, and the Emerging Question of Gender Equality in Indian Society: Looking for Possible Pastoral Ways to Foster Healthy Families KU Leuven
In Sickness and in Health. Health and Quality of Life in Roman imperial to late Roman and middle Byzantine Sagalassos KU Leuven
Who was the healthiest, the Roman Imperial to Late Roman (1st- early 5th century AD) or Middle Byzantine (11th-13th century AD) population at Sagalassos (Pisidia, SW Anatolia)? That was the question this Ph.D. research started with. Yet, a second question was added – why is the one population healthier than the other? –, because it is more interesting to explain differences in health than to merely asses these. As it is not possible to ...
De Sociale Psychologie van Sekse-Ongelijkheid: De interactie tussen Stigma en Zelfregulatie. KU Leuven
Despite substantial changes in their position, women are still strongly underrepresented in various fields and in the higher positions in society. My research concentrates on the social psychological factors that transfer low social status into lower outcomes, and the processes by which this occurs. The research I propose takes an innovative approach, integrating research on self−regulation with work on social identity and stigma to ...
Novel microfluidic technologies for forensic sample investigation KU Leuven
My research is situated within the context of forensic inquiries into sexual assault cases involving male perpetrators and female victims. A primary challenge in this domain revolves around the acquisition of high-quality material from crime scenes for perpetrator identification. Specifically, the focus of this investigation is on touch evidence samples, gathered from objects where DNA has been deposited through handling or wearing. However, ...
A better understanding of the mechanisms, nature, scale and impact of sexual violence in Belgium Ghent University
The general aim of this 4-year UN-MENAMAIS project is to contribute to a better understanding of the mechanisms, nature, magnitude and impact of sexual violence on female, male and transgender victims, their peers, offspring, professionals and society in Belgium as well to generate policy recommendations and prevention and response strategies.
New Insights on Human Y-chromosomal Variation for Forensic Familial Searching KU Leuven
Forensic DNA analysis has become the gold standard in the justice system to identify the perpetrator from biological traces found at the crime scene. Nevertheless, offender identification through standard DNA analysis can be challenging in mixed biological samples from sexual assault or murder cases. With a male perpetrator, as in the majority of the cases, it is possible to genotype for the male specific Y-chromosome (chrY). This analysis ...
