Innovative solutions for issues surrounding urban distribution: viable models around demand-bundling and urban distribution centers Ghent University
Urban distribution transport and logistics activities required to meet the needs of entrepreneurs, public institutions and consumers in our cities to specific goods and services. These are goods, but also loading and possibly even to consolidate and added value activities. Common problems such as untuned window hours, traders from the same neighborhood who all have them delivered independently, and ever smaller and more frequent shipments, ...
Low‐frequency sound generation and propagation of large horizontal axis wind turbines Ghent University
Noise issues are currently hindering deployment of wind turbines, and their low-frequent emissions are suspected to be both annoying and harmful for man. This project aims at developing a time-domain sound generation and propagation model, starting from highly-detailed fluid dynamics calculations. The mechanisms of low-frequent sound and the way they are influenced by atmospheric conditions will be elucidated.
Measuring and Modelling Hydrological Surface Connectivity KU Leuven
Hydrological connectivity describes the internal linkages between runoff generation in upper parts of the catchment and the receiving water. It is quantified as the ratio of the runoff reaching the catchments outlet and the total internal runoff generation. It thus effectively bridges the gap between the point-scale separation of rainfall into soil water storage and (sub-)surface runoff as opposed to what we see as response at the hillslope ...
