The renewable energy sector

Book - Report

Subtitle:A Flemish socio-economic analysis
In order to support the discussion and policy on renewable energy, the Department of Environment, together with the Flemish Energy Agency, decided to examine the Flemish renewable energy sector in 2010. Based on a survey of the sector and an analysis of the annual accounts data, the study examines the following key parameters of the renewable energy sector in Flanders: turnover, employment, financial ratios, the characteristics of the sector such as its legal form, year of incorporation, geographical location, and so on.

In chapter one, the demarcation of the research is discussed. Next, in chapter two, we explain the methodology, the sample used and the representativeness of this sample. The actual analysis results are discussed in chapter three. The variables for which we could find information are discussed. In chapter four we make an estimate of the turnover and employment of the entire Flemish renewable energy sector. We do the latter by extrapolation of the results found to the complete sample. Finally, we compare the results with the results from other similar studies. It should already be said that the input of data was limited and the results of this study should therefore also be considered as an indication.
