Biology Vrije Universiteit Brussel
The three main research orientations of the department are: molecular biology, human biology and environment. The project focus on the following areas: 1. Parasitology; 2. Immunology and cancer therapy; 3. Development biology; 4. Environmental genetics; 5. Bio-diversity and plant genetics/engineering; 6. Nature conservation; 7. Marine and terrestrial ecology; 8. Mangroves preservation; 9. Eco-(geno) toxicity.
Biology of the Testis Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Our research team studies spermatogenesis with a special focus on spermatogonial stem cells. Our current aim is to develop strategies in order to prevent infertility after gonadotoxic treatments. Fertility can be preserved by either limiting the loss of gametes and their precursors or by storing gametes and/or their precursors. Gonadotoxicity is an important side effect of cancer treatments. While adult men can bank their spermatozoa prior to ...
Biomathematics Vrije Universiteit Brussel
BIMA (Centre of BIoMAthematics)deals with mathematics, applied to: 1. Genetical, anthropological and (socio)biological models; 2. Economics (for instance chaos theory and the (im)possibility to use chaos theory on the stock market). The Centre of Biomathematics consists of 3 members with the following main points of interest: Head: Prof. Dr. R. Corluy: sociobiology, physical anthropology, distance and cluster analysis in anthropology and ...
Biomechanics Vrije Universiteit Brussel
1. Podiatric biomechanics: The biomechanical analysis of the lower extremities during locomotion, the foot in particular, is essential for the scientific understanding of the biomechanical function of the lower body. This is very important for medical disciplines as orthopaedics and podiatry because a correct diagnosis and treatment of biomechanical disfunctions of the lower extremities rely heavily on a good understanding of the different ...
Biomechanics and Human Biometry Vrije Universiteit Brussel
The main research topics of the department BIOM are: 1. Three-dimensional kinematics of human movements; 2. Biomechanical simulation modelling and optimisation of sports movements; 3. Podiatric biomechanics; 4. Computerised gait analysis; 5. Tracking of health & performance related fitness from adolescence to adulthood; 6. Influence of environmental factors on adult life style; 7. Monitoring fitness & physical activity of Flemish ...
Biomechanics Section KU Leuven
The research activities of the division are concentrated in three areas of biomechanics: 1. FUNDAMENTAL BONE RESEARCH: Both the relation between bone structure and its mechanical properties and the influence of mechanical sollicitation on bone remodelling are investigated. These relations are particularly relevant for the study and comprehension of fracture healing mechanisms and of osteoporosis. The division uses state of the art engineering ...
Biomedical Research Institute Hasselt University
BIOMED is a multidisciplinary institute where fundamental as well as applied scientific research, innovation and education are carried out in a stimulating academic environment within the domain of life sciences.
High quality fundamental and applied research is performed in a limited number of selected core domains relevant to human health and disease. Scientific services are conducted in activity fields closely related to our ...
