Special Research Fund Professorship in immunology Ghent University
A professorship granted by the Special Research Fund is a primarily research-oriented position and is made available for excellent researchers with a high-quality research programme.
Merging immunology with synthetic biology to improve animal health: strain engineering for the production of structurally defined carbohydrates with immunomodulating properties Ghent University
The continued spread of anti-microbial resistant bacterial pathogens together with a lag in the development of suitable antibiotic alternatives set the alarm bells ringing in public and animal health. In this project proposal, ImmunoKeys, synthetic biology and animal immunology experts join forces to engineer microbial cell factories capable of producing structurally well-defined (partially acetylated) chitooligosaccharides with optimal ...

The role of the IRE-Â1/XBP-Â1 axis in NK cell mediated anti-Âtumor immunology Ghent University
This project aims to identify the role of the unfolded protein response in NK cell homeostasis and functioning. More specifically, we will address the function of the IRE-Â1/XBP-Â1 axis in NK cell mediated anti-Âtumor responses in vivo. This research question is highly novel and will lead to a better understanding of NK cellbiology, which is highly relevant for cancer immunotherapy.

Pre-allocated Tenure track appointment in immunology Ghent University
A pre-allocated tenure track appointment grants one the privilege of focusing primarily on research with a teaching load limited to no more than 60 teaching hours per semester, for a period of five years.
Pre-allocated professorship in veterinary immunology Ghent University
Alphaherpesviruses have developed a finetuned balance with the immune system of the host,
allowing (lifelong) infection of the host and efficient transmission but at the same time leading to
relatively benign symptoms, such as cold sores with herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1).
Disturbance of the balance with the immune system can have severe consequences. Deficiencies in
Natural Killer (NK) cells severely ...

Respiratory Syncitial Virus immunology and molecular virology Ghent University
The ectodomain of the short hydrophobic protein (SHe) of Respiratory Syncytial virus will be used as a recombinant virus-like particle in prophylactic vaccination studies against this virus. The protective efficacy of SHe-specific adaptive immunity will be characterized in a mouse model. Using passive transfer of antisera and immune cells the mechanism of protection of this novel vaccine will be determined.
