Self-regulation in sport teams. Analyzing positive and negative proactive voice behaviors at the between- and within-subject level. KU Leuven
Team leaders strive to obtain self-regulating teams that are able to adequately respond to complex and changing circumstances (Crant, 2000). Especially in the dynamic microcosm of team sport settings, it is impossible for leaders to be constantly aware of ongoing affairs on and off the pitch, to constantly intervene or specify every single task that is required. It is therefore crucial that players proactively take their responsibility by ...
Optimization of CEOs and spokespersons use of voice in times of crisis and conflict. KU Leuven
Every organization is vulnerable to crises, which are unexpected events that have a large impact on an organization’s operations, and which have negative consequences for the organization (Coombs, 2015). One of the most important consequences of a crisis is reputation damage (Avery, Lariscy, Kim, & Hocke, 2010). In order to limit the negative consequences of a crisis, crisis communication is crucial, because research has shown that crisis ...

unVOICING Migraine - A Study of the Failing Voice KU Leuven
What can the voice reveal about the migraine experience and what can migraine teach us about what it means to be voiced? Shuttling between theoretical findings and artistic practice, Mariske Broeckmeyer turns to concepts provided by voice theory, disability studies, psychoanalysis, queer theory and philosophy to create a framework that studies the relation between migraine and voice. By introducing artistic research in the spheres of voice ...
Voice outcome of thyroplasty type III in transgender men Ghent University
Masculinization of the voice in transgender men is typically achieved through gender affirming hormone therapy with testosterone. However, 20% of them experience insufficient pitch decrease after 1 year testosterone use. A surgical technique to lower the pitch of the voice is the Isshiki thyroplasty type III (TP III). However, prospective studies investigating voice outcome of this surgery are completely lacking. Furthermore, the relation ...
Towards a diachronic typology of the middle voice KU Leuven
The middle voice is a complex linguistic domain, as it lies at the interface between morphosyntax and the structure of the lexicon. A typical example of a middle marking language is Dutch, in which the ‘reflexive’ pronoun zich in fact behaves as a middle marker, as it is used either lexically with verbs that only occur with the reflexive, e.g. zich vergissen ‘be mistaken’, or to derive reflexives from transitive verbs, e.g. zich(zelf) slaan ...
VOICE ROLES. Performativity in Affective Economies. Hasselt University
Children’s voice recognition in domestic and educational settings: A children’s right-oriented approach to data protection Ghent University
This research proposal focuses on data protection and children’s rights issues associated with children’s voice data processing in two specific settings: at home and at school. Interactive toys and smart assistants are entering living and class rooms, yet legal questions regarding lawfulness and transparency of data processing, profiling and commercialisation of sensitive information remain unsolved. These concerns transcend the child’s right ...
Rehabilitation of the Voice after Paralysis (ReVaP project) Ghent University
The purpose of this research proposal is to investigate and compare the short- and long-term effects of three intensive behavioral voice therapy approaches in the intervention of adults with unilateral vocal fold paralysis. A longitudinal randomized sham-controlled trial with a cross-over design will be used. The effects on neuromuscular and (supra)glottic activity, vocal quality and patient’s self-report will be determined.
