The Role of 'Digital Super Peers' in Gender and Sexual Identity Achievement Among Adolescents KU Leuven
Adolescence is a crucial phase for the exploration and achievement of gender and sexual identity. During this period, parents, peers, but also the media can act as important socialization agents who shape norms and values. In particular, digital environments offer unique opportunities to turn to media personae, so-called ‘super peers’, who can serve as role models and information sources regarding gender and sexual identity in a way that is ...
Successfully mainstreaming gender in EU development cooperation and the role of the EU, the partner country and civil society: a best and worst cases analysis. University of Antwerp
Men’s health behavior and wellbeing obstructed: The role of gender identification and precarious manhood in three domains. KU Leuven
It has been well documented that men have a shorter life expectancy and a higher suicide rate than women, and there is preliminary evidence that traditional masculinity norms may be linked to such health and wellbeing risks. However, most health researchers have examined these issues from a clinical perspective and not much is known about the underlying social psychological mechanisms that may account for such outcomes. This project aims to ...

Gender inequality in the labor market: The role of flexible jobs KU Leuven

This has led to the development of what is now known as the ‘collective’ model. The collective model acknowledges that the household is a collective of ...
Men who care: An examination of internal contributors to men’s participation in communal roles by the example of paternal leave KU Leuven
This dissertation contributes to the emerging research field on men’s underrepresentation in communal domains such as health care, elementary education, and the domestic sphere (HEED). We explored these relations using the example of how men’s interest in parental leave – ...
The Yin and Yang of PDGF signaling in Skeletal Stem/Progenitor Cells: mechanisms underlying its roles in age-related bone loss and anabolic bone responses KU Leuven
Age-related osteoporosis and non-healing fractures pose major clinical problems. There is urgent need for effective and safe bone-building drugs and regenerative cell therapy procedures. Bone-forming osteoblasts are derived from skeletal stem/progenitor cells (SSPCs). Despite their importance in safeguarding bone mass with age and mediating skeletal repair, very little is known about the mechanisms controlling the preservation and activation ...
The activation of political gender stereotypes: an experimental test of the effect of the information environment on the use of political gender stereotypes in Flanders. Ghent University
The position of women in politics has captured the attention of scholars for decades. Also today, women continue to face difficulties when penetrating this male-dominated domain. Gender stereotypes are one of the factors impeding women’s entrance in politics. By investigating the conditions under which political gender stereotypes are activated in voters’ minds, this project moves beyond a description of the presence of these stereotypes and ...
