Probabilistic distances and Bayesian statistics: new insights on and methods for the choice of the prior Ghent University
The choice of the prior is a key aspect in Bayesian statistics. In the literature there exist many different proposals of priors and diverging opinions on which prior to use when. The goal of this project is to tackle this problem from a new angle by importing probabilistic distances from probability theory.

Vernieuwing buurtbeschrijving: update van het statistisch wijkenprogramma 1 en woontypologie voor Wonen in Brussel Vrije Universiteit Brussel
this project entails:
A. An update of the statistical neighborhood program that produces neighborhood data (for newly defined neighborhoods); the program can be used for the 'wonen in Brussel' website, as well as by the Data Cell of the Brussels Capital Region for policy and research purposes.
B. Set up of a new housing typology for 118 neighborhoods in Brussels for the ...
HIV prevention among young women in sub-Saharan Africa: statistical and epidemiological modelling to unite biological, sociological, behavioural and epidemiological science Ghent University
The incidence of HIV is exceptionally high among young women in sub-Saharan Africa. This phenomenon is the result of biological, behavioural and epidemiological factors. Using data from Malawi, statistica land epidemiological techniques will be applied to create a constent, holistic modelling framework for these complex dynamics, and this model will be used to formulate implications for HIV prevention.
The role of statistical learning in the development of mathematics KU Leuven
Mathematics is a fundamental tool in life, however there is a lack of a clear scientific understanding about how math learning is precisely achieved. The central premise underlying this project is that mathematics is fundamentally a language that uses meaningful symbols which must be organized according to a finite set of rules in order to exchange ideas, concepts and theories among people. One of the most impactful insights that emerged from ...

Easier, better, faster, stronger: developing statistical methods for conducting sample size planning in intensive longitudinal designs KU Leuven
Easier, better, faster, stronger: developing statistical methods for conducting sample size planning in intensive longitudinal designs KU Leuven
The use of intensive longitudinal studies has skyrocketed in recent years as it allows researchers to investigate within-person psychological dynamic processes. However, intensive longitudinal research lacks an overarching framework to inform researchers on how to optimally design a study. Specifically, a key question that researchers need to address is how to select the sample size to be able to answer research questions and derive reliable ...
