PTR-TOF 8000 System (proton–transfer–reaction–mass spectrometer)
The PTR-TOF 8000 system is a highly sensitive instrument that performs real-time monitoring of hundreds of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), such as isoprene, acetone, acetaldehyde, methanol, ethanol, benzene, xylene and many others, including some inorganic compounds, present in air. It is used to measure the VOCs that are emitted by plants, animals and other organisms, and to measure the concentration of VOCs in the air. The instrument is used in relation to ecological questions such as emission of isoprene at canopy level, internal physiology of leaves under different ecological conditions and stressors, the role or VOCs in animal behaviour, etc. https://www.ionicon.com/information/technology/ptr-ms
Type: Apparatuur, Op één locatie
Locatietype: Single sited
Toegankelijkheid: Onderzoekers kennisinstellingen
Gebruiksmodaliteiten: The instrument is available for collaboration with other groups. First contact Miguel Portillo Estrada for information and availability. The amount of data that is produced after an analysis and its complexity is high, therefore the instrument must be operated by an specialist and the data processed and evaluated by an specialist. The instrument is heavy weight and contains sentitive parts prone to degrade and break with transport. The instrument cannot be transported easily, therefore the analyses should better be carried out at its original location, although moving is also possible depending of the experimental setup. The instrument has been used in collaboration with other groups for research on animal behaviour (lizards, adders, toats, dogs), emissions of fungi and bacteria, emission of new building materials (bitumen), etc.
