Project

Near-net Shape Vormgeven van Geometrisch Complexe en Multifunctionele Componenten met behulp van Binder Jetting

This project aims to purchase a Binder Jetter (BJ). BJ is a fabrication method allowing to build geometrically complex objects based on a 3D design using spherical powders, which are locally connected with a water- or solvent-based binder. The intended device is modular and equipped with fully accessible software and hardware. This allows the platform to be further expanded, while a wide variety of combinations of powders (polymer, metal, ceramic) and binders (water/solvent base, ink with or without (nano) particles) can be explored. The current consortium has highly complementary expertise, linked to very diverse end applications. This platform will stimulate cross-pollination between the research groups involved, with other academic partners and with potential end users. As such, the current platform offers added value to the rich KU Leuven tradition of additive and net-shape manufacturing, both in the field of research and education.
